I got my first toy poodle, Cassi, in 2011, as I always wanted to have a toy poodle since childhood. Never did I know I would completely get hooked on this amazing breed and end up competing in agility and breed confirmation.
Much of this is due to the influence of a few amazing people I met on my journey while raising Cassi. Firstly, his breeder, Lorraine Davoren (Waylor Poodles) and his puppy class trainers, Trish Hall and Caryn Kritzinger. My breeder became one of my closest friends and taught me everything I know about poodles. She taught me the art of grooming that eventually led to me not only learning to groom my own poodles, but to do show clips and compete in breed confirmation. My puppy trainers introduced me to the world of dog training and agility. This is were I first got introduced to agility and was hooked ever since. I can still remember Caryn saying: "Wow he is flying, he will do excellent at agility". And I was like: "What is that?" And that was it...hooked for life. Cassi is now a KUSA Non-Contact Champion, SADAA Master Agility Champion, and competed overseas representing South Africa at the IFCS World Agility Championships in April 2016. It took a lot of training and travelling to achieve the goals I set out to achieve. I never planned on this when I initially got Cassi from my breeder, and I am whole heartily blessed to have him as my first Toy Poodle. He is my superstar! We moved to Canada in January 2018, and Delta started her journey. See the toy poodle page for more information. |
